Gadar box office collection Day 2: The Sunny Deol film has taken over the box office as the film has earned over Rs 83 crore in just two days.
After a thunderous opening of Rs 40.10 crore at the box office on its debut day, Gadar 2, featuring Sunny Deol in the lead role, continues to dominate the box office with an impressive collection of Rs 43 crore net on its second day, as reported by industry tracker Sacnilk. This brings the film’s domestic net earnings to a staggering Rs 83.10 crore, a remarkable feat for a Hindi film. In 2023, only a few movies managed to attain such impressive numbers during their opening weekend.
Projections from Bollywood Hungama suggest that the film could potentially amass Rs 175 crore in just five days and is on track to join the coveted Rs 300 crore club. The film’s three-day opening weekend is estimated to fall within the range of Rs 125 crore, according to the publication. Notably, Gadar 2 has already become the highest-grossing film for its lead actor, Sunny Deol, who has been a prominent figure in the industry since the 1980s.
In the context of 2023, the sole movie that outperformed Gadar 2’s opening was Pathaan, starring Shah Rukh Khan, which raked in Rs 57 crore on its debut day. Gadar 2 was released alongside OMG 2, featuring Pankaj Tripathi and Akshay Kumar, which secured only Rs 10.26 crore on its initial day. Nonetheless, buoyed by positive reviews and strong word-of-mouth, OMG 2 could potentially pose a challenge to Gadar 2 in the days ahead.
Directed by Anil Sharma, Gadar 2 boasts an ensemble cast including Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma. Serving as a sequel to the 2001 blockbuster, the film is set against the backdrop of the 1970s and traces the journey of Sunny’s character, Tara Singh, into Pakistan as he embarks on a mission to rescue his son from the clutches of the Pakistani army.
Shubhra Gupta from The Indian Express awarded the film 1.5 stars and remarked that the “Sunny Deol starrer doesn’t offer any innovative elements.” The review further elaborated, “Gadar 2 follows the same pattern as its predecessor, with Tara Singh, fueled by patriotism, once again crossing into Pakistan to liberate his robust son (Sharma) from the grasp of the ruthless Major General Hamid Iqbal (Wadhwa).”
